Daycare

This memory is of the daycare where I went for K-3 though after-school care and summer care during elementary school. I even stayed with the owner in her home after the build was purchased by the church across the street for their own daycare and Kindergarten.

I was born a premature in 1976, at 3 lbs 4 oz I was tiny but a survivor. I made it at a time when premies usually died. I was always small at 35 I'm only 4'11". My parents always worried I would get hurt or really sick because I was always sick although childhood.

My mother went back to work when I was 3 years old. She know the daycare owner and teachers because the daycare was right near the drug store where she is still a Pharmacy Tech.

I remember the daycare had a library where the kids that could read got to check out. The daycare was also a K-3 to K-5 and after school and summer care. So you had multiple ages in a pretty big building. Few kids in each class and maybe 20 after school kids. It was small but nice because we all knew each other pretty well.

I don't remember who taught me to read I just know by the end of K-4 I was reading at a 2nd grade level. I used the library often. I remember this one book that was in English and French. I didn't learn French like my sister did, my great grandmother pass away before I was born. I've always regretted not learning it. Maybe someday I will. So I couldn't read French but my sister over time taught me to read and speak this little book. I don't know what it was called. Neither my mother or sister remember it but they remember me reading it often.

I remember few of the kids that went to school for years with me. One boy Brain use to torture me with grand daddy long legs because I hated spiders. He had a sister Heather who was my age who was a good friend.

I remember we had an awesome playground with all kinds of fun things to play on. We had a pool and basketball and kickball/baseball field. Plus woods we walked in with teachers picking blackberries and honeysuckle and learning about nature. One teacher even showed us what do if you get lost in the woods.

I remember it as a happy place for myself. I always had books to read and fun games and activities. The teachers made everything fun for us. After this elementary school was disappointing to say the least.
